I woke up early this morning and went hunting. I saw two deer, a doe and a buck chasin' her. He was a medium sized eight point so I let him walk figuring, "He'll be a perfect mount in a couple of years. After not seeing anything all the rest of the morning I came back to the house and sighted my rifle in at one-hundred yards...on the money!
I went back out for the evening hunt not expecting to see anything. But as the woods grew darker I looked to see if I could see my cross hairs up against a dark background and looking about a hundred or so yards away there was a buck sniffing at the ground, head low. He had smelled a doe. He trotted back into some brush, and I gave a couple grunts. He came back out walking directly toward me. I had my rifle up already. I gave him a good looking over. From the tree he looked like a shootable deer...Bang!!! He ran about 100 yards (I know everything is a hundred yards right?) and fell... When I got to him, he was the same deer I saw this morning. "Crap!" I thought, I wanted to let that one live for a couple more years! I'm telling you, look at the antlers in two more years he would have been a 10 possibly 12 pointer!
Oh well, that's the way it goes I reckon!
