GOT ONE!

I woke up early this morning and went hunting. I saw two deer, a doe and a buck chasin' her. He was a medium sized eight point so I let him walk figuring, "He'll be a perfect mount in a couple of years. After not seeing anything all the rest of the morning I came back to the house and sighted my rifle in at one-hundred yards...on the money!

I went back out for the evening hunt not expecting to see anything. But as the woods grew darker I looked to see if I could see my cross hairs up against a dark background and looking about a hundred or so yards away there was a buck sniffing at the ground, head low. He had smelled a doe. He trotted back into some brush, and I gave a couple grunts. He came back out walking directly toward me. I had my rifle up already. I gave him a good looking over. From the tree he looked like a shootable deer...Bang!!! He ran about 100 yards (I know everything is a hundred yards right?) and fell... When I got to him, he was the same deer I saw this morning. "Crap!" I thought, I wanted to let that one live for a couple more years! I'm telling you, look at the antlers in two more years he would have been a 10 possibly 12 pointer!

Oh well, that's the way it goes I reckon!

Aw, Disaster

So there I was after the hunt this past Saturday. I ain't saw a deer all morning long, so I headed back to the house at around eleven. I took off all of my equipment leaned my gun against the truck. Even though I didn't see any deer, all was going well. Then I went to reach for my rifle. I grabbed my rifle at the very tip of the barrel. When I pulled it to me it slipped from my hand. I grasped for it only catching air both times. As the gun continued to tip farther over I noticed the scope was going to be the first thing to hit the ground. I turned my head i couldn't stand to look at it any longer..."thud." "Disaster," I thought, as I hung my head in shame... I knew before I even picked the rifle up my scope had to be ruined or at least WAY out of sight, and would have to be sighted in again. I turned and saw my gun laying there on the ground. I couldn't bear to shoot it or even check the scope out of fear of what I might find. I hastily tossed the rifle in the truck and went inside. Later I came back out with my step dad and told him what I did. The zoom was bent and neither of us could turn it. We tried with channel locks and it just turned the whole scope inside the rings! I had a Simmons on there when that happened. About a month or so ago I almost bought a Leupold...I'm so glad I didn't. I would have been very unhappy if I would have ruined a 500-600 dollar scope rather than a 150 dollar scope!
Any way to make a longer story shorter, I went out that afternoon and bought a new "Center Point-Adventure 4-16 x 40" Yesterday after about 10 rounds out of my 300, and a hurt shoulder, it was sighted in. It seems to hold it's line well, even with the brutal beating that a 300 Winchester magnum can give. And for that I am happy. So I, personally...thus far...can say about "Center Point" it's a decent scope for the money. But guys seriously be careful with where you grab your rifle...(I am glad I got a new scope though).

Ah here it is almost a month into hunting season and I've only seen one deer, very breifly. I did get the chance to help clean one a couple of weeks ago. The deer was then halfed so I did get some meat out of the deal. That's all I'm ever looking for anyway, meat in the freezer and antlers on the wall! Tomorrow I pack up to go out again. I haven't been able to get any good footage or I would post some picutures. We'll see how it goes. Salute! I'll keep you updated.
